For small businesses

Small business website management, without hiring IT.

Short answer: small business website management means someone else keeps your site updated, backed up, secure and working, and handles the small changes, so you can run the business instead of the website. Our plans start at a single site and run month to month.

What matters most

What matters most on a
small business website.

A small business site has one job: bring in enquiries and make you look trustworthy when someone checks you out. Website maintenance for small business sites should protect those things first, in this order.

1 · Enquiries arriveContact forms · booking tools · click-to-call A form that silently stops sending costs you leads you never knew about. Forms and email delivery are tested after every update. Leadsfirst priority
2 · The site stays up and cleanUptime · security · malware Small business sites are frequent targets precisely because they're rarely watched. Monitoring and hardening close that gap. Trustsecond priority
3 · There's a way backDaily off-site backups · tested restores If something goes wrong, the site comes back from yesterday's backup instead of being rebuilt from scratch. Recoverythird priority
4 · It's quick on a phoneMobile speed · Core Web Vitals Most local and service searches happen on phones. A slow page loses the visitor before your offer loads. Speedfourth priority
5 · The details are currentPrices · hours · staff · offers Out-of-date information quietly undermines trust. Small changes are handled from support hours instead of waiting for a redesign. Accuracyfifth priority

Who does what

What you keep doing,
and what you hand over.

Website management for small business owners shouldn't take control away from you. You keep the parts only you can do; we take the parts that need technical time and attention.

Your setup

Small business sites
we typically look after.

The website management services for small business that actually help depend on how the site was built and what it's for.

Brochure site on WordPressFive to thirty pages, a contact form and a blog nobody updates. The most common setup, and the easiest to keep healthy.WordPress maintenance →
Service business with bookingsSalons, clinics, trades and consultants. The booking tool is the business, so it's tested after every update.
Small online shopA WooCommerce store with a few dozen products, where checkout and payments have to keep working.WooCommerce maintenance →
Webflow site from a designerBeautiful, but forms, integrations and CMS content still need someone once the designer has moved on.
A site the last developer leftNo list of logins, no backups you can find, and dozens of pending updates. A common and fixable starting point.
Page-builder siteElementor, Divi and similar. Builder updates can shift layouts, so key pages are checked after each one.

Budgeting

What small business website
maintenance usually costs.

Most small businesses only need to budget for three things: hosting, the occasional licence renewal, and someone looking after the site.

Professional maintenanceUpdates · backups · monitoring · report The typical market range for a small business site, before hosting. Plans with support hours and security sit toward the top. $50–$250per month, market
HostingShared · VPS · managed A separate bill in your own name. Most small business sites run well on modest hosting that's properly configured. $5–$300per month, market
Domain & licencesDomain · premium plugins · theme Yearly renewals. Letting one lapse is one of the most common causes of a small business site going offline. $110–$550per year, market

Market ranges from published 2026 website maintenance cost guides (Gravitate; Mos Web Design), checked September 2026. Our own plan rates, from a single site, are on the pricing page.

Getting started

How small business website
management starts.

Most small business sites arrive with some catching up to do. Here's how that's handled without surprises.

1 Before you pay

A free written assessment

We check the live site: platform, update backlog, backups, security and whether your forms actually deliver. You get the findings in writing.

2 If needed

Catch-up, quoted first

If the site is years behind on updates or has been compromised, the catch-up work is quoted as a fixed fee before anything starts.

3 Every month

Maintenance and a report

Updates, backups and monitoring run in the background. You get a short report and a named person to send changes to.

Five minutes a month

Four things every small business
owner should still check.

Even with website management handed over, these take a few minutes and catch the problems only you would notice.

Send yourself a test enquiryFill in your own contact form once a month. If it doesn't arrive, tell us the same day.
Read the monthly reportTwo minutes. Look for anything held back or flagged, and ask if something doesn't make sense.
Check your details are currentPrices, opening hours, staff, offers. Send changes as they happen rather than saving them for a redesign.
Know your renewal datesDomain and hosting renew in your name. Make sure the card on file is current so nothing lapses.

Your options

Doing it yourself, a freelancer,
or website maintenance services for small business.

Doing it yourselfFree in cash, expensive in time. Works if you're technical and disciplined about updates and backups. Most owners aren't, and don't want to be.
A freelancer, when neededGood for one-off jobs. The risk is nobody watching the site in between, and nobody available on the day it breaks.
A maintenance planA fixed monthly cost, one accountable person, and problems caught before customers notice. What most small businesses end up needing.Compare plans →

Who you're dealing with

A name and a face,
not a contact form.

You're handing someone the keys to your website. You should know who they are.

Questions, answered

Small business website
management: common questions.

What is small business website management?

Small business website management means handing the running of your site to someone else: keeping it updated, backed up, secure and working, and making the small changes a business needs, so you don't need in-house IT or a developer on call.

Is website management different from website maintenance?

Maintenance is the technical upkeep: updates, backups, security and monitoring. Website management for a small business usually adds the day-to-day changes on top: new staff, updated prices, a seasonal offer, a new page. Our plans cover maintenance; management work comes from support hours on Care + Secure or ad-hoc hours.

What do website maintenance services for small business include?

Tested software updates, daily off-site backups, uptime and SSL monitoring, security hardening and malware scanning on the higher plan, small content changes from support hours, and a plain-English monthly report. New pages, redesigns and marketing are quoted separately.

How much should a small business budget for website maintenance?

Published 2026 market ranges put professional maintenance for a small business site at roughly $50 to $250 a month, before hosting. Our own rates are published on the pricing page, starting with a single site and no contract.

Do I need a plan if my site hardly changes?

A site that never changes still needs its software updated and its backups checked, because security patches don't wait for you to have new content. For a stable brochure site, the entry plan covers exactly that and nothing you don't need.

Can you manage a site another developer or agency built?

Yes. Taking over a small business site someone else built is a normal starting point. The free assessment checks what you have, what's outdated and what's at risk before anything else happens.

Will I still be able to edit my own website?

Yes. You keep full admin access and ownership of your domain and hosting. Edit what you're comfortable with, and send us the rest.

What if my website is on Webflow, not WordPress?

That's covered. WordPress and WooCommerce are the most common small business setups we look after, but Webflow, static HTML and custom-coded sites are maintained under the same plans.

Do small businesses need a monthly report?

Yes, even more than large ones. Without a report you have no way to know whether the work you're paying for is being done. Ours is short, plain English, and sent every month whether anything happened or not.

Is there a minimum contract?

No. Plans run month to month with thirty days' notice, from a single site. There's no annual lock-in and no setup contract to sign.

Where are you based?

In Chennai, India, working remotely with small businesses across the US, UK, Europe and Australia. Every request gets a first response within one business day.
